66 -Remix

“66 - Remix” is an illustration that happened by accident.

I was working on my banner for Spyline.de (see previous post), using a previous illustration entitled ‘66‘. In Photoshop, I had masked off the area that represented the dimensions of the banner.  I laid out the composition by using three versions of the illustration, scaled to different sizes.  I accidently turned off the layer masks and was really pleasantly surprised to see this image revealed underneath.  I thought it worked really well as a remix of the original, so that’s what it has now become.

66 -Remix

Spyline.de was kind enough to ask me for an interview, and to create their November Theme.

This is the second theme I’ve had the pleasure of creating for them, but the first interview for the site. The finished article can be read here.

Photocoach Magazine

PhotoCoach is a French magazine that recently interviewed me for a 6 page spread in their latest edition.

The magazine asked a variety of questions ranging from my work processes, to my philosophy on art and its purpose.  It’s a beautifully designed magazine, and I’m very pleased with the final article.

Look out for PhotoCoach Magazine - Issue #2, out next week.

Wall Designs

This was a fun project. The directive was to create some wall art for BottleRocket Entertainment’s new studio space. A lot of white walls to fill - a graffiti artist’s paradise.

Wall Designs

The images here are the mock-ups I created to show BottleRocket what the various studio spaces could look like with different artwork. It’s such an advantage for a client to see with their own eyes what a project might look like when finished, and mocking up the images this way in Photoshop proved really helpful for them.

Piccadilly Circus

Piccadilly Circus is a new piece that I created after being inspired by a recent trip back home to the UK. I spent a great deal of time just walking the streets of London, and exploring areas I haven’t seen before. As always, I took plenty of photos for reference and textures. Seems I can never quite separate work from leisure, but that kind of goes with the job I suppose.

When I got back to the computer, I started sorting through my 8gb worth of photos (many useless). I found one picture that I took while in Piccadilly Circus caught my attention. There’s a bronze statue of four horses just nearby Eros called ‘The Horses Of Helio’, created by Rudy Weller in 1992. The overall energy of the work is very impressive, and I thought it would be a good subject for a new piece.

Piccadilly Circus

It’s quite a bit more detailed than a lot of my previous work, and posed some new challenges. Most of these were directly related to the fact that I decided to work at a very large scale.

Down Turn

Completed a new set of editorial illustrations for Top Gear Magazine. This assignment was slightly different than the others as I had to create an additional piece for the Australian edition.

RockNRolla

Okay, so I get quite a few questions regarding what inspires me, so thought it was about time I added a new ‘Inspiration‘ category that I can add to in the future. Here is the first post for the section, which is a motion piece by Danny Yount.

If you haven’t checked out his work before, you should do yourself a favour and visit his site: dannyyount.com. He has a collection of some amazing work. Not only is the motion first rate, but the quality of the imagery is simply inspirational.

The image above is from one of his later pieces for the new Guy Ritchie movie. Ritchie created two of my favourite movies; Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels + Snatch, but also did two of the worst movies I’ve ever seen; Swept Away + Revolver. Fingers crossed, Guy Ritchie is back to his former self and this new one will be one to watch out for.

Anyway, back to the Danny Yount intro. It mixes live action with a great 2D/pseudo 3D graphic novel look to create a really striking opening credits sequence. Check it out here.

Well, haven’t had a chance to update the blog for a while here, but for good reason.  Just got back from a nice little holiday back home to see family and friends in London.  Since I’m now based in the states, I need to head back to the UK at least once a year to charge the batteries and cure the home sickness.

Took a load of photos for reference and textures while I was there, so time to get back to work and put all that inspiration to good use.

Most of my time was spent walking the streets of London, exploring areas by foot that I haven’t come across before.  Found some really cool art shops, galleries, and places that I think would be of interest to like minded artists, so as soon as I get some time, I’ll post links and photo references to check out.  Time I made more use of this blog anyway, so look out for more coming soon…

La Prochain Fois

‘La Prochain Fois’ is my latest piece. Most of my work seems to be portrait, so thought I’d mix it up a bit.

‘Swept Away’ is my second attempt to do a happy, carefree illustration that could be used for my daughters’ room…
